College life is about developing your academic knowledge and understanding plus so much more. Go Active can enhance your college experience, as you have the chance to take part in a range of physical activities. Whether it is just turning up to play or taking part in structured sport. Taking part in enrichment activities is a great way to develop and maintain physical and mental wellbeing. It is also a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and have fun!
Why take part in Go Active?
- The activities offered are influenced by student’s interests and requests
- can change half termly
- Two styles of sessions: turn up and play or instructor led
- Sessions are free or have a minimal charge
Activities that we have offered have included Fencing, Table Tennis, Yoga, Zumba, Football, and Rugby & Boxing.
The activities are open to all students attending the college
Volunteering & Leadership
We have student activators who support in the delivery of the Go Active activities gaining valuable employability skills. They also support in the promotion of Go Active
We offer students the chance to develop their leadership skills through a partnership with Herefordshire School Games organisers who have established a Leadership Academy. Students have the chance to attend workshops to then gain experience supporting and delivering in the Winter and Summer School Games along with supporting school sport competitions.
HLC has a very successful football team that competes in AOC Sport West Midlands league, where they play against other colleges in this region. Training takes place twice a week, with matches on a Wednesday afternoon.
If there is the demand for other competitive sports such as Netball, Rugby & Hockey, we would look to enter the relevant AOC leagues.
We have had recent success with a numbers of students representing Herefordshire District in Athletics at the County School Track and Field Championship and English School Athletics Association Track and Field Championship. Students gained English school standard and national standard times and distances.
