Level 3 Music Technology student Ryan Jordan is a natural when it comes to music production.
This past year he has been featured twice on BBC Hereford & Worcester’s ‘Introducing’, a show that focuses on unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar music. His track ‘Surrender’ which he wrote and produced with vocals from Nadia Adams was first featured and then the band Atlas had their track ‘Reaper’ played, which he produced and plays drums on. Also featured on the show was Hero to Zero’s track ‘Faultline’ which Ryan recently produced. The show is part of a larger network of regional programmes from which tracks are selected by BBC Radio 6 Music. The show has launched numerous careers including those of Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran.
“It is a great accomplishment and we have had the Atlas album come out recently which I have also produced, so that has been really exciting.
I have been working for Nick Brine at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire this year, assisting with studio session work when they have bands booked in there. I get on well with Nick and the bands, so I have learnt a lot, such as different types of microphone setup, recording, improvising with sound in unusual spaces; there is a lot of space for experimentation here so no track will have the same sound as the next.
I think it is important not to take yourself too seriously in this industry and have a good sense of humour. It isn’t just your skills which are important it is how you get on with other people as well.”
