Sophie Stevens, Level 3 Hair Apprentice
“Initially I went to a sixth-form college and then went on to study hair and makeup elsewhere. I tried a few different avenues before realising I wanted to train as a hair apprentice and the College seemed the best place for me to do this.
I definitely prefer an apprenticeship over studying in a classroom, as I really enjoy being in the salon. My apprenticeship is with Cameo Salon in Hereford and it’s a really busy environment which I am thriving on. One of the great things about it is the experience I have already gained and I love having the opportunity to try new things.
I have a competition coming up and I find creating new styles and thinking of new ideas really fun. I have completed my level 2 hair apprenticeship and passed my End Point Assessment (EPA), so I am now back in the salon working towards my level 3 qualification. I would 100% recommend an apprenticeship, as you have the opportunity to experience working within a real environment alongside studying.”
