Hannah Fortey – Animal Management Level 3
Hannah is a second-year student on the Level 3 Animal Management course.
“From an early age, I’ve always liked animals, especially marine life, I’d always be wanting to go to the rock pools by the beach when on holiday. When I left school, I wanted to come to Holme Lacy to study Animal Management. While I considered doing A-Levels to do Biology, it was too broad for my liking, whereas Animal Management allowed me to concentrate solely on the animals. As I finish this course, I’m looking forward to studying Zoology at Aberystwyth University. I’ve even secured a £1000 bursary from them for my success in exams. I’d like to go on afterwards and complete a masters in Zoology too, as a career I’d love to work in marine conservation, working with whales.
The college has been very welcoming to me, especially given that I suffer with ME, it’s a nice, compact campus, and the tutors are all really nice and supportive too. On the course we have a great mixture of academic learning and practical sessions, getting to work with a wide variety of animals, including the exotics, and the animals down on the farm too. I’d really recommend this course for anyone with a love of animals, or wishes to go into animal management as a career, and the college itself is a great environment to learn in.”
