Evelina Sodaityte

"When I started working at Taylor Lane Timber Frame Ltd I had no previous experience of accounting, and as a result of this my employer offered to enrol me onto an AAT apprenticeship to gain necessary knowledge and skills to progress in my role. I was more than happy with this suggestion, as I liked the idea of studying towards a qualification while working.

When I was back in Lithuania I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration; however my circumstances changed and I decided to move to the United Kingdom. I was first employed by Taylor Lane Timber Frame Ltd as a Technical Administrator, but new opportunities arose within Human Resources and the Accounts departments – giving me a chance to learn about different areas of the business and developed an interest in accounting. I have since successfully completed my Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship and AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting and achieved a Distinction.

After I complete my AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting, I'd like to take on more responsibilities and see how I can progress at the company I currently work for. If there are further opportunities to study towards chartered qualifications, I would be very interested.

I chose to study at Herefordshire & Ludlow College because a few of my colleagues recommended studying at here, as they have gained their qualifications from here as well. I find the content of the course very interesting and enjoy learning new things about financial and management accounting. The course is structured very well, a variety of study resources is used, and a reasonable amount of time is given to prepare for exams. The College also has great AAT tutors who are knowledgeable, approachable and supportive.

I would definitely recommend the AAT course for those who are thinking of starting a career in finance & accounting, as this qualification is widely recognised; gives you a good overall knowledge of accounting; and helps you develop a skill set that many employers are after. The College itself is a great place to study – with the course tutors, apprenticeship coordinator and other staff I have dealt with being really helpful."

"Evelina Sodaityte achieved 100% in her Financial Statements AAT 4 Professional Diploma exam, which she sat it in January. I know this has been achieved at the lower levels - but not at AAT 4. This really is some achievement." – Clare Eccleston, Evelina's tutor.
