Carpentry & Joinery - Level 1

This course provides a firm grounding in the construction industry and you will use hand and power tools to create woodwork and joints.
Course Overview
This introductory qualification provides you with a range of practical skills and knowledge, giving you a sound foundation for a career in the construction industry. Its hands-on nature will build your confidence in both your practical and theoretical skills, preparing you for progression and further study in this area, with the potential for an apprenticeship. During the course you will learn the safe use of woodworking hand tools, their sharpening and care, production of basic joining methods and the fitting of everyday ironmongery.
You will have the opportunity to visit local sites such as Keepmoat Homes, Border Oak and Oakwrights to see how work is carried out in industry, as well as benefiting from our extensive purpose-built and fully-equipped workshops. Your dedicated teaching and apprenticeship team has a wealth of experience with strong links to many joinery and building companies.
Qualification: City & Guilds Level 1 Construction Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery
Duration: One year
Course Content

- Health, Safety and Welfare in the Construction Industry
- Knowledge of Building Methods and Construction Technology
- Produce Basic Woodworking Joints
- Maintain and Use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools
- Prepare and Use Carpentry and Joinery Portable Power Tools
Assessment
Achievement is through continuous assessment of practical units, and multiple-choice tests for theory units. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level.
Maths and English
All students following a full-time programme of study at HLC will study English and maths as part of their studies, please refer to the Study Programmes page of this website.
Entry Requirements
- No formal entry qualifications are required
- Successful interview, initial assessment and a good school reference
- You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area

Aged 19 years or over: Tuition Fee £995 | Registration/Exam Fee £150
Additional Course Cost: £275
