Foundation Studies: Hospitality & Catering - Entry Level 3 / Level 1

A hands-on and practical course to develop your basic and more advanced skills in hospitality and catering within a real community café.
Course Overview
This course provides a specific and practical introduction to hospitality and catering. You will be involved in running a community café based at Hinton Community Centre, preparing and serving lunches to members of the public and catering for a number of other external events. There will be the opportunity to gain additional qualifications in food hygiene and you will develop skills in retail, marketing and customer care.
You will also be involved in planning, hosting and catering for a charity event during the year. There is the opportunity to be involved in a wider range of activities, such as a variety of trips and visits, fundraising activities and opportunities to socialise and take part in games and sports.
You will be coached in developing your job seeking and interview skills, as well as the process of looking and applying for a job in the hospitality and catering industry. You will also study English and maths, which are essential for future job roles. The delivery of the course involves giving each student a behaviour and performance grade for each lesson. This contributes to an overall record of achievement and supports progression to further education or work.
Qualification: City & Guilds Entry 3 or Level 1 Certificate in Hospitality & Catering

Assessment
Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects and practical work. Online exams are also used to test knowledge. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level.

Entry Requirements
- No formal entry qualifications are required
- All applicants will undergo an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy
- Places will be offered following a satisfactory interview
- Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area

Course Costs
Aged 16 - 18 years: There are no tuition or examination fees.
Aged 19 years or over: Tuition Fee £995 | Registration/Exam Fee £150
Additional Course Costs: £140
Personal Equipment: You may also be expected to buy your own personal equipment such as personal protective clothing, stationary and data storage devices.
