Protective Services - Level 3 (Formerly Public Services - Level 3)

This course is equivalent to three A Levels and will give you a thorough and practical insight into the public services sector.
Course Overview
This course will prepare you for the mental and physical demands of life in the services, whether you decide to go straight into industry or continue to university-level study. You’ll benefit from being taught by professionals with years of service in the uniformed protective services and who still work in close collaboration with the police, fire and ambulance services. Designed to provide highly specialised work related knowledge, you will develop the understanding and skills sought by employers in a wide range of uniformed public services.
With your positive outlook and willingness to step out of your comfort zone, you will take part in a wide range of different activities which may include: radio and communication, Royal Marines visit, climbing, hill walking, service fitness/exercise drills, military unarmed combat/physical intervention and conflict management through a series of role plays.
Qualification: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services (equivalent to three A Levels)
Duration: Two years

Assessment
Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects and practical work. This course includes an element of self-study. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level.

All students following a full-time programme of study at HLC will study English and maths as part of their studies, please refer to the Study Programmes page of this website.
Entry Requirements
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above (to include English), consideration will be given to relevant Level 2 qualifications at Merit grade or above
- Successful interview and performance on taster day
- Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area

Course Costs
Students aged 16 to 18: There are no tuition or examination fees.
Students aged 19 to 23: Who are studying for their first full Level 3 qualification will be not be charged any tuition fees, but will be charged the materials fee only.
Students aged 19 to 23: Who already hold a full Level 3 qualification and all students who are 24 or over will be liable for the full cost of the course, based on the current student loan applicable for the qualification. Please contact our Finance department to be advised of the fee / loan due.
