This short course has been designed to introduce learners to the basic bookkeeping practices which underlie bookkeeping and accounting processes. It aims to provide learners with a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the principles of double entry in the context of manual bookkeeping.
The course will cover during the 12 weeks:
- Types and classification of transactions
- Relationship between bookkeeping and accounting
- Principles of double-entry bookkeeping
- Recording receipts and payments in a cash book
- Bank reconciliation statement
- Petty Cash Book
There are no formal entry requirements for this course however a telephone interview will take place to assess whether the course meets your needs.
A notepad, pen and calculator will be required
If you wish to progress to an Accounting course leading to a qualification, your tutor will advise you about the best level at which to start.
Learners may progress onto the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Level 2 or 3 depending on their requirements. Alternatively, learners wishing to develop computerised accounting skills on Sage may wish to go on the Introduction to Sage course, also run termly.
