This exciting course provides a broadly based vocational foundation degree in sport, set in the community context, making it distinctive from similar courses. It is ideal for students wishing to pursue careers in the diverse sport related sector. It aims to develop the underpinning knowledge, skills and understanding through the opportunity to engage in a number of Work Based learning modules. The course covers a range of fundamental sport disciplines from basic sport and exercise science to socio-cultural issues, sport development, management and coaching reflecting the innovative and contemporary sport industry, from both regional to global perspectives. The partnership between HLC and UW offers a unique opportunity to study on both campuses with progression to a level 6 BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching for students wishing to pursue a further academic qualification. What will you study?
The course will be delivered through a combination of taught theoretical, practical and work based learning modules providing important work experience whilst studying. The focus is on the development of your skills and knowledge across a range of sport disciplines including sport development and management, sport coaching, the socio-cultural context of sport and sport and exercise science. Applied learning opportunities are integral and provides you with the broad range of knowledge and skills designed to facilitate employment or further study in related vocational areas through a rational, structured and coherent programme of study.
Our courses are informed by research and current developments in the discipline and by feedback from students, external examiners and employers. Modules do therefore change periodically in the interests of keeping the course relevant and reflecting best practice. You will experience a range of different learning and teaching methods such as seminars, interactive lectures, tutorial groups and learning sets alongside various digital technologies such as blackboard, twitter and YouTube.
There will also be meetings with Personal Academic Tutors (PATs)which are scheduled on a regular basis.

Location of Study
This is a University of Worcester approved course delivered primarily at Hereford and Ludlow College. Some modules will be taught at the University of Worcester to enhance the range of excellent facilities and support is available at both institutions.
The foundation degree is a vocational course and assessment methods will reflect this. A variety of different approaches are used to assess learning including;

- 72 UCAS tariff points and GCSE Maths and English Language at Grade 4 (C) or above.

On successful completion of the programme, there are opportunities to progress onto a BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching degree programme at Worcester or seek employment within the sport industry.
