Six HLC Students Awarded for Academic Excellence
Six Herefordshire and Ludlow College students studying on the Foundation Degree in Learning Support have been awarded £1,000 bursaries for academic excellence from the University of Worcester.
Run in partnership with the University, the bursaries are only awarded to students who have achieved the highest academic standards. This year’s successful students were Catherine Hybart, Stacey Bayliss, Catherine Mitchell, Yvonne Morgan, Suzanne Birchall and Nicola Makin.
Catherine Hybart was also awarded the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Award for being the most outstanding student from a partner institution. Catherine commented, “The award has been the icing on the cake for what has been an amazing foundation degree. Along my journey I have made lifelong friends and have learnt more than I imagined, but above all, I have been inspired.” Catherine was also keen to acknowledge the part played by her tutor, Jean Bourne, of whom she said, “She is a fantastic tutor and a credit to the university and indeed the College.”
This isn’t the first time the course has been recognised for its outstanding students. Over the past five years the number of Learning Support students receiving the awards has reached double figures, out of thousands of other applicants. Course Tutor Jean Bourne added, “Throughout her two years of study Cat has had to overcome several barriers to her learning but has never wavered in her determination to do her best and to be the best she can be!”
