Student Set to Represent West Midlands
One of Herefordshire & Ludlow College’s Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport students, Zak Weaver, has come first in the regional round of the Men’s Singles Table Tennis at the Association of College’s Regional Sports Tournament.
Playing in Lilleshall National Sport Centre earlier this week, Zak faced competitors from Sandwell College, Birmingham Metropolitan College and Joseph Chamberlain. Zak eased through the first group stages, beating all his opponents in straight sets, winning two games to nil.
In the final, Zak played against Dudley College who provided more of a challenge as he was behind at the start of every game. Having reached third place in the tournament last year, Zak was determined to remain calm and continue to play his own game, going on to win in straight sets winning the regional tournament.
Originally from Weobley High School, Zak has been encouraged to follow his talent in the game and commented, “I feel happy to have won the regional tournament representing the College and am looking forward to representing the West Midlands at the National Championships in April.”
