Lock Down Your Routine
On the whole, people are a lot less active than they used to be. Technology plays a massive part in that; we can drive cars, take public transport, use a machine to wash our clothes and our entertainment often consists of watching TV, using our phone and sitting at a computer. We should all be doing some form of physical activity a day, whether that’s a walk, riding a bike, skateboarding or dancing. Any activity is better than none!
There are so many benefits to exercising – research has shown that physical activity can also boost your self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy; as well as reducing your risk of stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Also, people who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing many long-term (chronic) conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and some cancers.
So, our challenge to you during lockdown is to dedicate some time to exercising and moving your body. Often, persuading yourself to workout is actually harder than the workout itself – push through that temptation to put it off until tomorrow, and within a couple of weeks exercising will become part of your routine and will no longer feel like a burden.
